The fella who bought my DL1000 was due to be travelling down from Leeds this morning (six hours) to collect it. The Bike has been in my shed pretty much since I bought it and all I have done is start it once a week.
So I called him this morning to make sure he was en-route and then proceeded to move the Bikes around in the Shed and bring the DL1000 out. Once in the daylight my conscience got the better of me and I started spraying some cleaner on various parts of the Bike, this led to a full on wash and hose down. Prior to its bath I had started the Bike and left her ticking over for a few minutes, I only switched it off once the hose came out.
Anyway, half hearted wash complete I insert the Ignition Key in the Bike and it turns over but doesn't fire, I take the Ignition Key out and the Bike is still cranking over
Convinced I have filled a connector with water I rapidly disconnect the Battery. An hour later I have sprayed copious amounts of WD40 in every possible direction and I am no better off, I call the AA and I call Scott (the purchaser) to tell him the bad news, he decides as he is almost here he would continue and see what the AA man finds.
The AA were great, he spent a good hour and a half fault finding, I kept pointing him towards the front of the Bike because I was convinced it was water ingress. In the end it turned out to be a stuck Starter Relay, obviously nothing to do with the hosing as it lives under the Seat, we disconnected it, gave it a shake and Hello presto all was back to normal.
Scott wasn't phased, he still bought the Bike and is currently on his way back to Sunny Leeds.
Cheers Scott
