2023 DL650XT automatic choke issue
« on: November 20, 2024, 09:41:49 »
Hi all just wondering if anyone has experienced
This issue, when stopping off when bike is fully
Warmed up,turn off the engine, then after about 20 minutes start the bike to continue on a journey
When accelerating away bike is underpowered
As if it is being choked when it shouldn't,after a mile
Or more the problem disappears and the bike is fine.

Ivan.
I haven't heard of this before but with the FI ( I'm guessing by the way) it will recognise via a sensor that it's cold or warm and adjust the mixture accordingly.
If yours isn't correct when warm (although it could be something else of course) then I would suspect a temp sensor.
Mine is a 2017 and runs fine at all times.
How many Miles has it got on it? I'm guessing not many?
If under warranty get them to plug it in, although if it's not showing a fault code there may be little point.
Good luck.

Humour me.
Have you checked your coolant level?

Does the bike run correctly in all other conditions I.e an actual start from completely cold and then consistently OK once fully warmed up.
Does the bike also go to fast idle for a short period after a stop as well?
This could indicate it thinks it's fully cold again and needs to fuel accordingly until warmed up.
As Upt has said, coolant level and or airlocks around the temp sensor can cause funny behaviour.

I have noticed this on my '22 650 too. It is subtle, no misfire or vibes , but it feels just like the "choke " is on.You ask for 80% throttle and it gives you 40%. One pass through the box or even just through second and to third and it is gone.
We had mention of this but with a cold engine. I think it is to do with the secondary throttle valves ( stv) controlled by the ecu not opening fully.
It doesn,t feel like a fuelcut problem,  where it gives you nothing it still gives some , but not what is expected.
I think it is masked somewhat by our natural tendency , especially with a cold engine or cold tyres when the engine is still warm , not to goose it
I don't worry about it too much, I don,t think it is a "fault " as such just a hiccup in the ecu map.

I wonder if the later ones have a different fuel map for emissions. Although aren't all post 17's rated the same?
It'll be some'at or t'other.

Quite possible , updates to the ecu are common ( cheap).
Though Suzy FI is pretty good ,on the 650 at least, try an early MT 09 if you want to see bad

Does it do the same when you pull away when the engine is cold? Is it possible it's part of any new ECU programming to stop the throttle being so snatchy in 1st gear?

FWIW, I don't notice anything like this on my 2017.
