Horn replacement
« on: August 08, 2024, 21:58:48 »
2018 gen 3. I gave up my cunning attempt to fit twin Fiamms today. Extremely tedious.

Has anyone fitted a standard diaphragm horn like the original but much more impressive in the original mounting and without a relay?

If so, any hope of a link?

Cheers

Simon

I always use these FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster LOW Note Horn, which I have on both my 800re and cb500x ,
Depending on location sometimes a slight tweak on the bracket is required or use the standard bracket from your bike.
I buy them from my local motor parts store, just get the version with two spades as some come with a socket that fits more modern cars. These do not need anything doing to your wiring as long as the connections can reach, on my Honda I had to make two small tails with a male and female connecters but on the Suzuki I didn't

I fitted a Denali Mini Soundbomb recently and posted it on here somewhere.
I think on the VSTROM specific area about a month ago.
It's a good upgrade and I mounted it off the engine.

Open to correction, I seem to recall reading that the horn harness / gauge wiring is limited to roughly 6 amps. Any higher current exceeding this requires a relay to be installed to help with the higher current drawn on a stock harness.
Knowing the current limit should allow a person to narrow down which aftermarket horns could be evaluated as an possible option.

Anyone looking for info on how to wire in a horn relay, have a look at threads like: https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,1496.0.html or https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=21326.0

Denali Soundbomb compact. Relay. Job done. Very good, very loud.

What were the issues with the Fiamm horn?

Fitted a Denail here, made the wires longer

Thanks Deecat - just using one, low tone, made it a 5min job 👍

@rusty nuts, it's the Denali Mini soundbomb, better tone and volume over oem.

No relay needed

I can also vouch for the FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster.
Great horn and a straight forward swap.....
