Clutch release cylinder 2022 DL1050
« on: July 04, 2024, 12:03:33 »
Hi,
On my ‘22 DL1050 I’ve taken the clutch release cylinder off to remove and clean behind the front sprocket cover.
There is a rubber boot that goes over the inside of the release cylinder and this seems to be a very loose fit and fell off the cylinder as I pulled it away from its seat.
I can’t remember this happening the last time I did this job and thought I had to pull it off to clean it.
Am I right in thinking I should probably try and buy a new boot?
Also there is some dry looking white/ish grease on the part of the cylinder the push rod goes into. I think I should put a bit more in but would anyone know the specification of grease I need?

Thank you,
Mark.

Hi, to play safe I’ve ordered a new rubber boot. Can anyone please confirm what type of grease goes on where the push rod meets the clutch release cylinder? Thanks.

Sounds like a hi-temperature lithium grease from your description.

These would be typical recommendations.
Although where it states molybdenum grease, I would probably use molybdenum paste if I had it at hand.
If anything is touching rubber, it needs rubber grease.
Just my thoughts FWIW.
I appreciate this probably isn't your set up but the Suzuki service manual would look very similar to this....probably.....maybe?

I Googled and found this statement.

K76 acts as an excellent lubricant between rubber components and steel or other metals. Due to the vegetable base oil the grease is resistant to hydrocarbon solvents, e.g. petrol and diesel.

Then I looked a bit further and found this, it's large and a little expensive. Maybe you can find it cheaper?

Hope this helps.  :thumb:

I've just looked again and found this, it's more affordable  :)

Thanks to everyone for your advice. I’m glad I ordered the part as the original was completely deformed and stretched compared to the new one that was, indeed, a very snug fit over the clutch release cylinder.
