Best brake pads for Gen1 650?
« on: May 25, 2024, 18:03:13 »
Hello, just looking for recommendations for a decent set of brake pads for my DL650A K9...also, is a braided hose upgrade worth it or should decent pads on their own be enough to help improve the braking performance? Cheers

I have tried HH sintered on front and rear, I found it too easy to lock up the rear wheel on my non ABS Wee.  On models with ABS, a lock up shouldn't be a concern.

EBC kit sintered FA229HH (LH) / FA231HH (RH) front  /  FA174HH (rear).  I have to admit that I do prefer the feel of organic pads on the rear brake for my style of riding. https://ebcbrakes.com/

Something worth a possible heads up is that while EBC HH pads vastly improve the braking over the stock pads, they do tend to devour rotors if constantly used aggressively.

FWIW, I'm currently using Goldfren S33. https://www.goldfrenusa.com/

Thanks both, I might give the EBC pads a shot. I'm not really heavy on the brakes, but it would be nice to have some extra bite when you need it!
What would be the best grease to use on the pins and piston whilst changing them out? Cheers :)

For the sliders this,or similar HIGH temp silicone grease.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232360866347. One satchet will do all three brakes.
For the pistons brake fluid to clean , red rubber grease to protect.
Dr v strom has it sussed in this vid.Remember to swap the anti squeal shims over to the new pads.

I recently fitted some Gold-Fren Sintered HH Ceramic Front Brake pads to my 06 Wee, they have transformed the braking. They are very good value and seem to work a treat.
