Gear position selector

My gear position indicator on dash has started to become intermittent. Sometimes tells me which gear sometimes tells me an incorrect gear or sometimes nothing at all in the display. It’s riding fine but I’ve now started seeing the FI light illuminate every now and then. It’s a 650dl 2014 btw. Anybody had anything similar to this. Thanks for any help

This is the thread you need:

The youtube video is very useful too. I had to fix this recently on my Vstrom. Quite straight, but use top quality allen keys as the 4mm bolts holding the indicator device on behind are very tight. I used Bondhus ones.
Good luck.

:)Thanks for the video. I’ve had chance to watch it properly now and looks easy enough. Might even improve my Spanish too
. I’ll post once I’ve done the job with an update for anyone having a similar problem. Thanks again.

It's not the hardest job to do, but spend time cleaning the area under the front sprocket cover first will help no end. I use a scottoiler and there was loads of greasy sludge all around gear the position switch.

Count your blessings that you are not working on the DL1000 / DL1050, where the clutch basket assembley has to be removed to allow access the gear posn sensor.

A little longer than I’d wanted it to take but finally done this job today. Thanks again for the video, this has worked very well with all gear positions now showing and hopefully no more F I light coming on
