Dashboard weirdness
« on: December 23, 2023, 12:50:48 »
Took my 2015 650 out for a pre Christmas bimble.
All was going well, looked down at my instruments and it had all gone haywire. Speedo was just random bits, fuel gauge (had been reading 5 bars) was on 2, temp gauge had all bars on, everything else said zero. Rev counter needle was stuck on 4500 revs.
Everything was running OK, lights and indicators all fine.
Decided to ride home slowly. Sat at some traffic lights 5 miles from home and all of a sudden, rev counter needle swept round and all returned to normal.
Can't find anything wrong, I've jiggled and pulled cables and check connections I can see easily, seems fine now.
Only slight thing I've done differently was have the Oxford heated grips on, thast never caused problems before.
I hate electrical gremlins...especially intermittent ones.

My guess,
Condensation/damp.
We get it on boat electrics all the time if not used this time of year.
Try getting a cover on the bike ,even an old blanket will help.

I'm thinking a poor connection or the fact you said you had your heated grips on could the battery be on the low side & not enough power through a poor connection, high resistance connection to the display.
This might be of some help or at least give you some ideas of where to start.

Cheers boys, it's odd that it happened about 30 minutes into the ride, then cleared itself 15 minutes after that.
I'd be surprised if it is condensation, it hasn't been out for a few weeks but it's been OK in my garage the previous 18 months, not discounting that obviously. Will just have to see how it goes... it made me grumpy so I took the FJR out instead.

Condensation/damp is a cumulative thing .
Might be worth a check of the connections in Mick's post .WD40 and Dielectric grease are your friends :thumb:.
As a Yam fanboy it is good to see the FJR doing it's stuff.
