Vfr 800x to V strom?
« on: January 01, 2024, 15:02:32 »
Hello and happy new year to all, currently have a Vfr800x crossrunner (stupid name I know) and considering maybe a V strom 1000 as a replacement. Just wondering if any owners here have owned both bikes and can give me some pros and cons of such a move. The model I would be interested in is the 2014-20 XT with cast wheels and a lower seat (29" leg). I have grown to like the Honda, it has 2piece lowerable seat and a comfy ride but is a bit low of torque and power ( I have grown used to 1000+cc bikes).

Hello Goon, I've never had a crossrunner but I have had a few VFR's. The storm will have much better low down and midrange grunt but the crossrunner will have more top end power, the vstrom is all done at 7000 rpm where as the vfr motor is just getting going. The newer 1050's have a bit more top end than the 2014-2019 models. I'd say the Honda will be much more  refined also but I'd still prefer the old fashioned vstrom now I'm old fashion too! The vstrom is also much easier to work on.  I found the standard seat very uncomfortable so I'd say the low seat will be no better, I use the Suzuki tall seat which I like the best, I've tried Shad and Sargent over the years.        Hope this is of some help to you.

Like Porter I have a VFR and a VStrom. Two totally different bikes. The Strom is for long distances in comfort especially when twinned with an air hawk seat (600 plus mile days) whereas the VFR is for fun shorter days. The Strom is better in the lower gear’s especially if you short shift and ride the torque. The VFR likes to rev more
