Lowering
« on: October 30, 2023, 08:24:23 »
I have a 2016 650XT, and I was thinking of getting a new, lower bike, but the vstrom is literally like new, and is very low mileage, so I thought maybe I could just lower the bike (lust lowering kit and Suzuki lower seat). (I have had the bike from new, but am getting older and am less flexible now!)

However I was wondering what impact lowering the bike would have on rideability.

Any thoughts? Will it be detrimental or OK?

I had ridden BMWF650GS's and loved them so I bought one used. I didn't know when I set out with my trailer that it had been lowered but when I test rode it there was nothing with the ride that put me off. It actually handled just as well as the standard bike which is surprisingly good.

It would be a shame to spend a lot of money on another new bike when a low seat, then maybe lowering links and new stands may make the bike you have perfect.  :thumb:

As long as you lower both ends equally then the riding characteristics will remain almost identical.

* Love a 650GS, great little bike.

Hi
Have you rode it before lowering? I have a DL1000 and I'm only
5' 5" tall . As suggested yrs back (by someone here) they said ride it before
lowering it. I did ! never lowered it .... 50,000 km and I'm still riding it.
The DL1000 is a very nice well balanced bike

You can try taking off the blocks from under the seat, there may be some larger rectangular ones and smaller thinner round ones, just take off the big ones.

On mine that lost me 20mm once sat on the bike, which was enough for me to feel comfortable. It does, however, give you 20mm less between seat and footrests so it will sharpen your knee angle when sat on it, but you can shuffle back in the seat if you're cruising anywhere.
