Snapped Gear Selector Pedal Mk1 DL1000 k8
« on: October 30, 2023, 14:09:06 »
Apologies for beginning my first post with a cry for help. As you'll see from the pic my gear selector snapped off taking the bike around the back of the house. Difficult to source/replace? Thanks

Not diffucult  to source but not cheap either;
https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/Suzuki-parts/2560006g12 Part#28

Can be ordered in here for cheaper as well but probably be a wait;
https://www.suzukiparts.co.uk/shop/online-store/Suzuki-parts-finder/dl-v-strom/DL1000/k7-k8-2007_2008.htm#!dl1000k7gearshifting

Or keep an eye on eBay for one from a bike being broken for spares. They don't come up all that often though.

Is there enough "meat" to drill, tap the broken off stub, drill the lever and then attach with a decent set screw?
As a temporary repair obviously.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

 :text-goodpost:

I did exactly that, used it for more than a year... wrapped some tape around the bolt I used and slid the rubber piece over the tape.

That looks like a good solution. Was it difficult to drill through it?

Yours won't be difficult to drill through, it's aluminium.

Having checked mine, the selector is well corroded under the rubber sleeve and the slop in the bushing is getting a touch extreme so, thanks to this thread, I've ended up buying a new lever and pivot from Robinson's.
Along with new chain and sprockets, a clutch cylinder rebuild and general service, the winter list is growing again it seems.
Merry Christmas Strom.
