5L 10/40 Silkolene and oil filter (M&P)
« on: October 29, 2023, 18:01:53 »
Hi, found this on ebay for the Glee at under £39, which seems good value, as the strom holds a little over 2L, meaning 2 services worth of oil against the 4L bottle and filter at £36?
Ebay number 385571363603

That (I think) is a good price. I have been changing the oil filter every oil change but I have decided that I'm going to change it every other oil change in future. I am quite positive that it's okay and not only does it save a little money but it makes less waste too.

I will take the filter off and empty then refit it using a new washer.  :thumb:

I have recently started using my local independent motor factors to buy my oil, as they are slightly cheaper and I like to support a local business, but I have used the M&P combo deal for a few years now.

I change oil and filter every 3500 miles and typically do two changes a year, so I have just needed to get a second filter when it was time for oil change No.2.
The older I get, the better I was.

If you don't have a Halfords Trade card, Sportsbikeshop do 5L for £30

Doc, my Son does about 2k a year, so same as you, oil one year, oil and filter the next.
I have always used silkolene 2 stroke and 4 stroke oils and will stick with them due to reliability etc.
Other oils are available  lol

Ooh UK, that makes our deal we tend to get the oil from (£24.99 for 4L Shell Advance) pretty good.

And I've just googled that and Euro car parts has 4L of Shell Advance for £20 right now!

In 1991 I helped out a top racer here and he and a few others got sponsorship from Silkolene with their new pro4 oil.  Fourth race meeting in all the other blokes engines give up the ghost on both 750 and 600's. We still had some Shell Gemini left over from the year before so hadn't used the Silkolene yet. Tony Scott who built some of the engine's said it was oil failure.
I'm sure things have come along way from that but I could never use that make.

Own branded or supermarket oil is fine, it's the frequency (or adhering to regular oil changes) that counts! Filters will last two changes usually but I change mine with every oil change.

By all means buy what you like to use and/or what suits your budget.
So how's it going so far then?

With or without filters £5 to £6 a litre ain't bad then.
Back in the day with friends on their LC350's used castrol, shell etc. and were rebuilding every 10k, mine did over 20k and was still going fine when I stupidly sold it.

I've always used the Shell stuff from ECP as they often have a deal going and 4L is basically 1yr in the Vee with filter change and then top ups since she burns a little in a year.
That however is a complete steal, 2 bottles ordered, 24 months covered  :text-bravo:
