Brakes?
« on: September 07, 2023, 20:34:27 »
Hard for me to find where to post brake questions. I try here and hope the best.

Last time I installed a set of SBS (the Danish ones) sintered in front and in the back. I was never really happy about it. Couldn't really put a word on it, but I stumpled over some people writing that it lacks "initial bite"... and that is actually a good way to put it.

Should I find the originals (and what brand are they BTW), Brembo, EBC, or...?

If I understand it correct, EBC's are manufactured in the UK - which means I should be about it buy it in UK without being heavily EU-taxed.

Regards, Lars.

It is sometimes difficult to advise another rider on the best brake pads to use, as each rider has a different riding style. Some riders live on the brakes, while others are gentle with their brake application.
I think that the main thing is to understand the difference between sintered and organic (non-metal) pads  This includes the pros and cons of each.
Buying local does support the economy and can often save you some money by not having to pay import duties, etc. You just have to determine whether the brand and type of brake pad material is available locally.
Bottom line, I am using a set of SBS on one of my 1st gen Wee and thus far I don't have anything to complain about wrt the stopping power or rotor damage.

I found the OEM pads to be OK but when they had worn I changed them for EBC HH, which did feel better, to me, especially the rear, which I use a lot.
I would imagine that most, if not all. brake pad manufacturers sell their products throughout the world, so decide what you would like to use & have a search for that brand in your country.

I have tried SBS street, EBC hh and DP sport. Didn't like the SBS either. EBC where good but the DP pads where better but they where much harder on the discs.
I use a thumb level front brake so want instant bite from pads and only the DP's give me that. But for a normal brake I'd use EBC.

I will try the EBC this time.

So it is FA419 for the rear and FA379 for the front?

I'll thumbs up the EBC HH pads for the front, transformed my front brakes from "might stop" to "will stop". They do seem to bite much much harder when you've used them a bit and there's a bit of heat in them, but they also have enough bite from cold (still more than organics, albeit no-names).

Yeah, pichulec... brembo is the well known brand; what everyone are talking about. I read sone other place that they are quite hard on the rotors though, but I can see that there are many different variations of Brembo for the 1050.

Maybe I should go with Brembo instead.

I have sinthered front and carbon ceramic rear. Rear not hard on rotor at all, front: less hard than EBC Hh

But even within Brembo sintered, there are variations. As I recall something like SA, SP, SL, SR

Not sure of the 1050 pad part numbers. However, you can perhaps download a catalogue from https://ebcbrakes.com/catalogues/, to determine / confirm whether the part numbers match those that you have listed.

I run EBC GG pads front & rear which suit my sedate style of riding.
