Linear fork springs for V-Strom 1000 (K5)
« on: August 11, 2023, 15:02:31 »
Hello. Is it me rubbish at searching or there is no other springs available for V-Strom 2002-2012 than Ohlins Linear and Hyperpro Progressive springs?
I need closest to 0.93Kg/mm as possible, but can't find anything. Anyone know part numbers for linear springs from company like K-Tech, Hagon etc?
There is also Racetech but this is US so 3-4 weeks wait...

Don't want progressive ones.

Edit:
Looks like I don't have many alternatives, bought Ohlins 0.90 which is:

Rate N/mm:9,0 N/mm (9.0 N/mm = 0.92kg/mm)

So very close to 0.93Kg/mm needed
Shipping from France, in UK way more expensive (I don't think there will be duty on such low value).

Instead of searching for VStrom specific search by dimensions.

You need free length, internal diameter, external diameter, wire thickness and rate. It's also worth checking if the springs are closed ground or free, or open ended.

Wire diameter and the number of coils usually determines  the rate, linear rate springs usually have the same diameter wire throughout and have regular coil spacings. Progressive will either have uneven coil spacings or thinner wire at the ends.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Did you contact a suspension specialist eg Brooks Suspension & ask their advice?

No. I didn't. I was looking on their website but nothing to be found. Anyway, bought Ohlins already.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Ohlins springs, any I've used have been spot on unlike other makes I've tried. I was told Ohlins actually test their products on every bike they make for.

I know, my old springs are also Ohlins but already worn and compressed. New ones need to be for my current weight which unfortunately changed... 😅

Minor adjustments in "effective" spring rate can be made by changing the air gap.Less air gap more spring and the reverse the other way.A lighter spring with less air gap can work well.

With the ready availability of all types of pies, the mental strength required to lose weight is currently beyond my capacity. So fork springs would be the easiest option.

OK, I am having really hard time to find the springs. Can anyone give me helping hand and post some links? The ohlins springs which I have ordered would come in October so I have canceled the order. Cannot find anything other than hyperpro and wilbers progressive. I want linear springs...

Call Brooks Suspension - 01274 414768
or K-Tech - 01283 559000
or SSR Suspension - 07935 293307
I'm not saying they'll have what you want but they are suspension specialists & will/should know what you are after & if it's available & from where.

Other manufacturers & specialists are available.  :)

I was hoping for some links where I can buy required stuff without the hassle of calling, asking and searching. I have already spent hours and hours of searching without much luck... Thanks anyway.

Surely if you ring a motorcycle suspension specialist they would be able to tell you there and then that the spring you are after is available, or not.
If it is they may be able to supply it or tell you where it's available?
I have spoken to & Emailed all of the ones I have listed & found them to be more than helpful with answers to questions I had about my suspension.

There's a set of Ohlins listed on Ebay from France £118 plus a tenner postage. Though as Mick says some of the companies he listed should be able to sort it out pretty easy.

You could try the Wilbers. Not the same bike but I have them for my 2015 strom. I found them quite hard for my light weigh (85kg). Only the top 30-40mm is progressive where and the Hyperpro it's more like 80mm, on my model anyway.

Wilbers does not have linear springs in their offer, don't want to progressive.
