2007 Vstrom 1000 turns over won't fire up.
« on: July 18, 2023, 11:54:03 »
I have just removed a datatool dot 4 alarm from the bike, fortunatly I was able to remove it by just cutting the splices and leave the original loom intact. The bike mow turns over on the ignition, bur won't fire up. I also have "CHEC" on the display this is with the stand up, kill switch in correct position and clutch pulled in. Any ideas ?

There have been a few posts on here about owners having problems when alarms have been removed!
Although you have said you have cut the splices & left the loom intact, it is possible that somewhere on the loom the alarm wiring may have required a jumper/loop in a connector to be removed that you haven't replaced?
Here's a couple of links to read that may help....

Under 'normal circumstances' if there is CHEC on the screen the bike won't turn over. The only time it will turn over is if the voltage is too low from the ECM to the display.
If you have CHEC showing then the fuel pump will not prime.

There is a search button on the forum so if no luck with the above use it to look for more 'alarm removed' or 'CHEC on display' posts.

Please let us know what you find, it all helps others who find themselves in the same situation.  :thumb:

Just realised this is in introductions, could a mod move it to somewhere more suitable please.
Richard, then you can go back to introductions & introduce yourself.   :thumb: :)

Agreed ...

Sounds like you've cut the indicator and power supply to the alarm which are easy but the immobiliser part still remains.

It's probably spliced further into the loom if the original alarm fitter done a decent job.

Re-check what you've done

Not sure if it is the same, but when I removed my alarm on my K9 bike,I had to put a link in the loom where Suzuki connect their immobilizer. It was under the seat at the rear on the LH side where the loom that carries the rear light cables is located, bit of a pig to get to if I remember,as it is next to the rear light assy.Plus I reckon it was plain black wires into a plug and I simply connected the two wires with a jumper link.

Whilst there are many splices when fitting an alarm, there is always at least one break in a cable too. This is then routed to the alarm to allow the alarm to re-make this connection when the immobiliser circuit is happy.
These wires will need joining back together where they have been cut.  This is often done in more than one place too, so bear that in mind.  Especially if it's a thatcham approved device.  The only way to do this normally is to follow each cable back to where it was connected, which requires removal of lots of cable wrap.
