DL650 pulling left after tyre change
« on: July 17, 2023, 17:38:29 »
Hi all

Just had a road 6 fitted to the front. Noticed straight away that the bike was pulling  left to the point I can take my hand off the bars. Being inexperienced I just thought it was settle down. Been informed this shouldn't happen.
I did find that the clamp bolt had not been tightened.
Floowed the manual, pumped the forks and tightened to the right torque. Still pulling.
Can anyone shed light on this please.

Just check that the tyre has been seated properly on the wheel. If you can get the wheel off the ground, spin it by hand and you'll soon see if that's the case. Some tyres have a ridge moulded around the edge which you should see has an equal gap all the way round.

Probably less likely on a tubeless tyre as you'd have a leak, but worth checking.

Also a thought... How was the wear on your old tyre? Were you perhaps used to compensating for that?

If you haven't already do a wheel removal and install again.
Whilst it's off check the beading is OK and for the tyre direction. Pressure it correctly.
Does the wheel rotate OK, I.E. brakes not binding.
Don't go back to that garage.

Does the front tyre "vibrate" if it is not on straight as others have said it will be out of balance.
But pulling one way sounds like wheel/fork alignment.
Can the front wheel spacers be fitted on the wrong side? are the brakes dragging/ binding.
Is the front wheel pointing fwds with the bars straight ,sit on it and look, think centerlines.
As Kwacker boy said is back in straight, look at chain adjuster marks for  a quick and dirty check.
What back tyre do you have on?

As you live in Manchester there must be a member somewhere near you to give you a chuck.

Thanks for all the advice.
going to take back off and grease up tomorrow. Running a road 6 on the back that was fitted 1000 miles ago. Old tyre was a road 5 that was well worn.
The spacer on the right is flush with the fork but looks like  1mm gap between the spacer on the left and the fork. Didn't want to over tighten when I had a look today.
Thinking its forks has whilst I was on the way to have the the tyre changed is was fine.

Does the wheel have the correct spacers in the correct sides?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Mate, I'm no mechanic but I would doubt that your bike is safe to ride. Please take it to a respectable mechanic and pay him (probably not very much) to check it out and put it right or at least tell you what the problem is. Ride slow to the garage. If it costs more than £50 quid I'll be surprised, how much is your life worth to you and those you love?

Please let us know what the problem was which ever way you find out.     :thumb:
