Display fault codes
«

Hi - anyone know if there's a way of displaying any registered fault codes onto the bikes LCD display please? I've got the F1 light up (red) and flashing F1 on the display, but I'd like to know what the actual fault codes stored are. I've heard that on some bikes if you short out a couple of pins on a connector you can show fault codes on the display, saving a trip to the dealers. The bike is a 2015 650DL.
Cheers

That will only show you the code/fault that is there when the FI is showing. Any old faults are stored in the ECU & a dealer can look at them or clear them, or, I believe some OBD readers with the correct connecting cable can do it too.

As per Micks description above! Mine only came up after 5 mins riding, so I took my spare key with me and a bit of wire in the seat. Then I could pull over, open the seat, short the pins and get the fault code(s).

The attached video in

may be useful.
The dealer mode code with fault translation is also listed in the service manual, which is available to download from the downloads section of this site.
