Self cancelling indicators ?
« on: April 21, 2023, 05:50:19 »
Anyone found a device for self cancelling Indicators ??

My 1250GS had them and being Lazy I keep forgetting to turn the bloody things off !!

is there a device that can be fitted that will facilitate the indicators to self cancel after a period of time or distance, I would have thought this would have come as standard as the bike has a IMU

thanks
Robb

ST2 systems keep popping up on my Facebook feed, they do something for indicators as well as their brake light system. Bikevis do two smidsy reminders, but I don't think they are self cancelling. No clue as to compatibility with yout bike's electronics, though. Some canbus type systems can be picky about altered readings from lights, horns etc..

If you can't find something suitable, another alternative is perhaps a simple buzzer as discussed in https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,3625.0.html

Sometimes I wonder if technology has really progressed over the years,I owned a Honda PC800 in the 90’s that had “smart” indicators. If you were stationary they stayed on,then as you drove around a corner say at a set of traffic lights they went off. When driving at in a straight line, they went off with the distance travelled,e.g.at 30mph it was 20 secs.and at 60 mph it was 10 secs.
The indicator warning lights on my Glee are so small they cannot be seen in bright sunlight so I fitted a pair of “warning buzzers”,They work great for me although I do get some strange looks from other bikers if indicating when stationary at traffic lights etc.

Having failed my mock test for an indicator left on and having a riding group of pedants who will "remind" each other of an indicator about 50mm after the turning, I ride around habitually stabbing at the cancel switch.
I've only ridden with self cancellers once and that was a test ride on a Harley which also had seperate switches on the left and right switchgear. I'm sure you would get used to it but I found it super odd so can understand it being weird going back the other way.
Let us all know if you find a decent solution.

Quick Google found this ..........
https://www.louis-moto.co.uk/en/smart-turn-system-2nd-generation-automatic-turn-signal-cancelling-10031140?filter_article_number=10031140
I've never used one so can't give a recommendation on how good, or bad, it may be.
I'm a serial canceller, regularly pushing the indicator button, just to make sure.  :)
Does anyone know how many cycles the indicator button has for the cancelling operation?
If I was to use something then the buzzer would be my option.  :thumb:

My old Honda SH300i had a buzzer fitted by the previous owner - never forgot to turn them off, and had the benefit of making pedestrians look before stepping out into the road...

On the Strom, I'm like Mick, habitually press cancel twice when turning them off.

My car is of course a Suzuki . No, Really!
Sorry to threadjack but does anyone else still give arm signals. When I passed my test you had to use arm signals AND indicators [if your bike had them] and even now ,say , when doing two close left turns will stick me mitt out on the second to reinforce the shown indicator.Lorry drivers especialy seem  to appreciate it and will give a little  nod.
