DL650 front footpegs

Hi, I've bought a pair of cheap front footpegs from Motorcycle parts warehouse. Loads of places sell these. They're supposedly compatible with my 650. Went to fit them, but there's no hole in the peg for the spring to insert into. Also the spindle is longer than the original. Has anyone successfully installed these,  and if so how did you do it?

Does the footrest fit in OK, looks thicker than the oe, just the photo maybe.
 You could drill the hole easy enough and use the original pivot pin. But the casting looks cheap, might be brittle, if it was me they'd stay in the plastic bag!
