Change MOT date
« on: December 19, 2022, 13:11:41 »
Hi All,
The MoT for our bike is due in February, this is a bad time of year for being outside trying to check things over, so we wondered if we could have it MoT'd again (after the February one) in the summer months and maintain that new date for it.
TIA

You need to SORN the bike until you want to get it MOT'd

Yes. SORN till the summer then pre-book the MOT to make the trip to the mot station legaL.

That sounds logical if we weren't going to use the bike from February till the next time it was tested, we can't miss out not using it when the weather gets better.

Alternatively, get it MOT'd when due, then do it again when you want it to come up again in future: this changes the date, and you still get the use of the bike. I did this with the KTM as it was due at the end of October and getting a decent day when I was available then wasn't always possible, so one year I shifted the date forward a few weeks.

Plus one for Mr Nicks idea. Last year mine was due in February, I booked it in but when the weather looked a bit grim I cancelled it & re-booked for a date in March. This coming year I may well look for a date in April?

Mine was always due in Week 2 of January and it snowed a couple of years.

Eventually I took it for an extra MOT in August and now I have an earlier slot and during my usual time off in the warm weather.

The only downside is you don't keep that extra month like you do if you get an MOT with a month maximum left to go.

I'm on for a record low this year Joe. I need someone else to start my usual New Years Day post to save me the embarrassment.

Just be aware that if it fails the later mot, then you have no mot until retested and passed
