Interloper
« on: December 15, 2022, 13:33:04 »
I'm an interloper on this site so apologies for that but I am after some help and advice please from fellow bikers. As a winter project I bought a SFV 65O Gladius with a fubared engine and in need of serious TLC. I am in the process of converting it into a cafe racer. I want to get rid of the ugly and heavy cat and replace it with a lighter system.  Having previously owned  SV 650 I know that there are a lot of similarities and shared components with the V Strom 650. I picked up a V Strom exhaust system which if all goes well I will cut off the silencer/cat and fit it to the Glad with an end can. The system nearly fits but not quite, I think that my original front header is too long. Can anybody please identify the system, year model etc, so that I can do a parts search & comparison.Any previous experience of or lengths of header pipes would be appreciated.  Thanks

You'll need to try much harder than that to offend people on here. ( sound of gauntlet landing on floor)

Sorry, I can't help identify the exhaust in your opening post.
You neglected to say from which year model DL650 the exhaust is from...
I could be wrong, but looking at the pix on your opeing post, it would appear that there may have been some sort of welding mod done (mid pipe?) to get the exhaust to fit on the V-Strom.
Perhaps a member here with a similar model V-Strom could snap a pix of their cross over pipe as a comparison.

Thanks, my understanding is that it was taken off of a brand new bike and has not been modified.  I don't know the Year or model  I was hoping somebody on here could tell me

Stilo,
I have my standard 2021 650 system in the garage which I can have a look at,just let me know the dims you are after.

I bought a used system and cut of the can ,then welded on a tube so that I could fit a aftermarket can to it.

Stilo

The header pipe is 385 mm long and the distance from the mounting to the end of the joint is 250mm.
From what I can see on your image the system that you have is from the older 650.

Hi and welcome

Sounds like a great project you'll need to start a build thread. Cheers.

There is a difference on the 1st gen Wee model exhausts wrt the K4-k6 Wee vs the K7+.   Besides the lambda  / oxygen sensor which started from K7, have a look at the discussion https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7103.0.html
Hence my theory of work done on the exhaust shown in the opening post. But as I previously indicated, I could be mistaken.
Another thread wrt the 1st gen mid-pipe https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/exhaust-fitment-across-gen-1-years.308746/#post-3749578

Thanks Gert
I'm almost certain that my exhaust is standard, I've compared it against others for sale on Fleabay and it looks identical
