Clutch Basket Anxiety 😟
« on: October 29, 2022, 16:48:28 »
I'm less than a month into owning my 2016 1000cc Strom

I've been reading that it's only a matter of time before the clutch basket judder and ultimate failure occurs. Then the only option being to send it out to America for a rebuilt.

The bike has covered 6000 miles, so I don't think I need to worry just yet.

BUT....has anyone got any comforting stories about having covered high mileage without any problems?

Are there any tips the prolong the OEM clutch basket???

I have no idea if my Vee has had the modification but I suspect not and it feels perfectly OK to me at 32k. I don't think the basket eventually fails completely causing damage, it just doesn't feel nice.

41,000 miles on my 2015, clutch basket done at 30k miles. No vibration felt till over 20k miles. They don't fail, the bike just shakes at about 3000rpm and just gets more and more annoying but they don't fail.
Don't worry at 6k you should be fine for many miles yet.
Tips, a Suzuki mechanic told a friend to get the revs up more, not to lug the engine, I didn't.

I got the original basket fixed by John at vibfree here in the uk but folk seem to have trouble getting hold of him now.  Werks do a great job also but with postage etc its expensive, I'd not buy an oe basket from Suzuki as it'll just go the same way in time. The new 1050 is no better, a friend had to get a new basket under warranty on his only a few weeks ago.

Over 50000 miles on mine and it hasn't been touched,  seems to be going fine to me . The biggest differences I've found to improving transmission smoothness have been from replacing worn chain & sprockets and their cush drive rubbers.

34K on my 2008 DL1000 and it's fine on the original and it feels OK to me.
