2014 1000 headlamp upgrades?
« on: July 19, 2022, 00:07:46 »
As I have only just acquired the bike I am thinking about the required upgrades I would like to do... 1st of a series of questions where searches haven't turned up much...
Headlamp performance is always a high priority and seeming as I am going from the nice twin H4 setup of the Varadero to a single H7/H9 (so it seems) low and high combo.. these need to be the best I can find..
I have been using Philips extreme visions (+150/200's) for many years in all of my vehicles, with Osram nightbreakers  when the Philips are not available..
The H7 is simple enough.. but the H9 seems to be an issue...
Is there anything even better out there for either??
Yes.. I am contemplating some aux light units, (recommendations also welcome...)
I shall be adding a headlamp relay setup as that seems highly recommended, along with checking and waterproofing the electrical connectors..

Led or HID are a consideration if they work really well (seeming as the Not could be acceptable now).
May also consider a retrofit twin headlamp setup (morimoto bi-led/mled style) if such a thing exits..
Cheers

Is it not a matter of headlight re-adjustment?  https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=36741.0
I'm not sure if you have had a look at the video in https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=37088.0 and the option discussed in https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=37768.20

Cheers.. (haven't ridden it in the dark yet)
Had seen the adjustment procedure.. and that will get done..
Bulb looks to be throwing some odd colours (rainbow) so no idea what's in there..
Full blast.. that looks good..  that hadn't popped up in the searches...
 Phase 1
Looks like I should fit a couple of quality bulbs, check and waterproof the electrical connections, do the relay mod and set it up as per the instructions..
Phase 2.. add the full blast later..

Phase 3. Flog the daft pointy 2014 model and buy a 2008 model with the twin headlights (and no beak).

Sorry, I couldn't resist  :smirk:

So.. whipped the bulbs out yesterday, the H9 was an Osram bulb, the dip beam H7 was a no brand 100w thing with some rainbow colouring.. whacked the Philips extreme vision +150 in and it's a lot brighter and whiter...

I did a bit of an experiment a couple of years ago with some 100w bulbs and the Philips.. (in a car) the 100w bulbs didn't do anything for light output.. but obviously drew more current...

So.. weeks later, I finally ridden it in the late eve and near darkness. It was dry.. . The headlamp seems a bit pants to be honest. Would be horrible in the wet... (Had a car that was OK ish in the dry, but failed miserably in the wet..
Adjustment is fine,  certainly glad of the aux lights I installed, though these are cheap and were really only for other road user visibility, I may have to look at some better lamps to improve things.
Going to bang the H7 +200 in to see if that makes a difference..
Shows how spoilt I was on the 'dero..

Anyone installed the Danish led conversion?? Seems like an awful lot of money, but it works, it works... Maybe for the spring that.. as I won't be doing many miles over winter..
