not so smoooooth
« on: August 09, 2022, 14:15:45 »
hi blokes.
I have a 2008 DL1000 with 39000 on the clock, it had a new clutch about 2000 miles ago.
now the sob story :old: it has been stood for 10mth due to the fact that I broke my hip :old: now when you go to pull away it judders and wants to jump forward, then not then it does.
it drives OK when moving, but if you try a faster start of it almost like its jumping a tooth on the sprocket, new chain sprockets about 400 miles ago.
any ideas blokes?
thank you all.

I might be wrong but it sounds like your clutch isn't engaging and disengaging smoothly.

Basically, the steels between the friction plates might be sticking.

Could it be fuelling with sitting?
Does it make any noise or just feel like it misses a beat?

I'll state the obvious and get the dumb suggestion out of the way but any chance air/moisture has become into the clutch fluid?
Would prevent the clutch from fully disengaging so it would be on the point of skipping and grabbing even with the lever pulled right in. Runs fine when moving as the clutch is then fully engaged with the lever out.

thanks so far blokes, it runs fine except for starting off each time, like you say it grabs and judders.
do clutch plates stick? or dry out, good one, as for water it kept in the dry.

thank you blokes.

When it jumps, Is there a loud "clonk" sound..?

Sometimes, the steels can get caught on the inner basket and when they release can jolt the bike forward with what sounds like a "clonk" sound, they should move freely.

From your description this was the first thing I thought of , maybe wrong

Totally off the wall but could it be to do with cush drive etc. as I'd expect the judder to be there every gear change if it's the clutch?
