OD Sign Came up on Dash
« on: June 23, 2022, 14:45:33 »
Just been out on my bike and on the Dash flashed up the letters OD for 20 secs then disappeared anybody got any ideas, must admit the other day the engine cut out a few times whilst out riding with my mate on the back, so came home and tried it today, no issues with it cutting off, but did see the OD on the bottom of the dash

Were you in 6th gear?

OD = Overdrive.

The gear position switch (variable resistor) behind the clutch tends to send incorrect readings to the ecu, so the OD light will not come on. My bike thinks it's in 5th gear, no matter what gear it is actually in. When I have to work on the clutch, I will then get to the position switch to clean it's contacts or repair it.

Have you got a TRE fitted. I had one fitted On my Vee when it started to fail the OD would randomly flash on every now and then and when I put it on the side stand I would get the Fi light up. New TRE fitted all back to how it should be

I'm sure that is a very good answer but are you sure the OP will know what a TRE is? To be honest, I'm sure I have read about it on this site but I can't remember. Cheers and yes, I am a bit thick.  :roll:

I think TRE is Timing Retard Eliminator
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Some info on the TRE, http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/tre.htm
Extracts from the Stromtrooper site (https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/ivans-tfe.43831/), "The TRE plugs into a connector under the rear of the tank.  It's used to eliminate the built-in timing retard in the first 4 gears, making for much smoother gear changes and throttle response at low speeds, but, it DOESN'T get rid of the dreaded 3,300 RPM stumble!!" and "Fourth gear is the only one unrestricted below red line and a TRE fools the ECM into thinking the bike is always in fourth gear. Be careful if you intend to visit triple digit speeds with a TRE, even for a very short time. Running higher gears unrestricted allows more speed than the chassis can safely handle."

To be honest I just presumed that the Strom community would know what a TRE was and does. My apologies. On mine I broke down the old one it just looked like a bunch of resistors sealed in some resin. They must have started to break down and fail.
