Chinesium electric start woes
« on: May 09, 2022, 17:25:49 »
I'm looking for inspiration once again on the Keeway Superlight 125cc piece of shit that my son in law owns.

The electric start has packed up completely. I have checked all of the wiring/connectors and all looks well, I suspect the switchgear based on the quality of the other side (indicators) that I have changed twice  :GRR:

Any inspiration before I get him to spend his cash on switchgear?

No real help I know, but if it might need a new one, will the existing one come apart to have a look, nothing lost if it won't go back together again?

I'd maybe hot wire the starter solenoid first to prove that it and the starter motor are OK.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately the only way the switch assembly is coming off is if I drill the screws out  :GRR:

On the bright side a replacement switch probably isn't very much. My mate had to buy the indicator side switchgear for his son's Jizzmop 125 and it was only £17 !

Multimeter onto the starter solenoid terminal and then press the starter button; is there 12v yes or no.
Simples :)

As said ...

Bridge the solenoid, if the starter motor is good it'll turn over and start if the ignition is on.

This will point you in the right direction however,  my suspicion is the start button has burnt-out.

Best of luck ....  :)

If the Electric Start isn't working then try starting it with a match.

Have you got a picture of the switchgear? Might be able to find an alternative named/id'd part that's the same.

Alternatively, find any handlebar mounted button and wire it into the starter solenoid  (after checking that the starter solenoid is indeed working!). My dads bike (an antique from 1985) has been really difficult to start since he had it last year, new battery, wiring checked, etc. Turns out the starter solenoid was a pot of rust internally but looked pristine. New solenoid, starts first time every time!

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32769288020.html This the one? There's two options A or B (looks like headlight switch or kill), £15 shipped. I'd always find a seller on Aliexpress that will take Paypal though as Aliexpress's "Buyer protection" leaves a lot to be desired.

If you're not going to get it apart in one piece then spray some contact cleaner in there insitu and keep everything crossed.

I have noticed that the link I posted now shows no results but when I posted it, it showed exactly what you are after. If you want the part, they sell it.
