Gravel Grids
« on: May 13, 2022, 13:57:12 »
Can anyone recommend a brand of the above to give us a more secure ride and parking site on our pebble drive, and if so, what is the ideal depth to go for - some are 25mm others are 40mm.

In my own humble opinion I really don't think such a tyre exists, the biggest issue is the weight of the bike. Having a different pattern would still have a similar profile, dropping pressures and re-inflating when you hit the tarmac may help.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Thank you Rusty Nuts for helping out with picture. What brand is that one, have you got a link?
I hope TLPower isn't too embarrassed.

Just the first pic I found in my haste to embarass a senior hent. I think it was Toolstation. But I'm older than TL, so I forget stuff and make mistakes.

:shy: what an idiot I am.

Read the question before formulating a reply.

We used to have a driveway as you described as well, we had it removed and replaced with Indian stone.

I'm sorry.  :shy:

No problem TLPower, we had a little smile here.
Indian stone is great alternative, more expensive and they need a better base, but well worth thinking about.

Being careful and trying not to embarrass myself, have you googled the item, searched on E-Bay and Amazon?
I was looking for some a few years back (didn't buy in the end) and found plenty of information about them and installing them. At the time I was looking at the 40 - 48mm deep ones, just because a heavy(ish) van would be parked on them and I thought they'd be better, no other reason.

Hi Barbel Mick
Been trawlin' t'internet all last week, read reviews till I'm sick of looking at them, visited a few local builders merchants and been dreamin' about 'em till they melt and turn into fiendish plastic blob on our driveway.  :angry-banghead:

Thanks for info about grid depth, it all helps.  :icon_wink:

lol......sometimes you just have to go for it, or not, as in my case.
I think the sub base will be more important than the depth of the grids. If that's solid they shouldn't move. All depends on what you intend to drive/ride or park on there.
