Glee coolant change
« on: November 07, 2021, 18:50:37 »
Hello all,
Just to confirm from the bits I have read;
1. Run bike up to temp.
2. Drain coolant by removing hose from oil cooler.
3. Refit hose.
4. Remove rad cap and fill radiator with same type of coolant/distilled water mix.
5. Drain expansion bottle and add new coolant/distilled water mix. (This will require slight raising of fuel tank for access?)

Am I missing anything, last time I changed coolant was 20yr ago on a v8 landrover ?  lol :thumb:

Coolant should be changed cold because  when it's hot there's pressure.
If you pull the coolant pipe off when it's hot you'll end up with hot pressurised coolant spat everywhere including you.

Change the coolant by removing the drain plug on the water pump then loosing the radiator cap will enable the coolant to drain.

Drain the reservoir then refill at the rad cap , when it's full, run it up with cap off for a few minutes,  let it settle and top up accordingly.

Once that's done top up your reservoir to the minimum level .

I did mine pretty much as kwackboy says. Undo the drain plug, put a funnel under/infront of it draining into a container, then when the fluid slows a bit undo the radiator cap slowly, that will stop antifreeze going everywhere.
I emptied the expansion reservoir with a large syringe & a bit of pipe to save removing the reservoir. You need to lift the tank a touch then the pipe will go through the hole in the tank mounting. I filled the reservoir using the same syringe.
