V-Strom 1000 2014 -2016 Idle Issue?
« on: July 05, 2021, 09:26:59 »
Hi All,

I am looking to buy a V-Strom 1000 2014 - 2016 and found a couple I which I am interested in, however, on one of them I noticed when starting from cold that the idle didn't sound quite right, hard to explain but it was as if it was idling slightly too low, fluctuating slightly, are there any known issues around this?

No issue, unless someone has 'played' with this without following the correct procedure with the software. The bike should fast idle on starting and then settle down.
You could ask the owner to check for any error codes, via the dealer switch under the seat, to see if a fault is showing.
Have they changed the exhaust system and removed the exhaust exup valve? This can also have an effect.
Finally, is there a TRE fitted? If so, then this can also effect the cold start-up.

Another one is the TPS setting - also checked via the dealer switch. If not in the middle of the 'C' on the dash when in dealer mode, that can also have an effect.

That bike in question might still have the old ECU. With the older original ecu the bike doesn't rev up much on cold start up and falls to tickover almost right away. Where as with the replacement ECU the bike will rev to 2000rpm for about 10 second before dropping to tickover. I've had a x-tre in my bike for 5 years now with no trouble of any kind, I'd not own the bike without it.

Ah yes, I see what you mean, I have seen a video of a dealer selling one that was clearly started from cold, after some 3-4 seconds the revs drop quickly!
