Quality of the original chain and advice.
« on: February 05, 2021, 22:24:48 »
Following my change of rear crown, I have to shorten the chain. I am surprised to see at 5000kms the poor quality of the RK chain which originally equips the V-Strom 250. Is it me or you also have hard points despite the chain lubrication?

I wanted to put a crimp link, but it's difficult to know which model to put ...

Do you know a resistant model of chain, and what number of links should be taken for 14 * 41 instead of 14 * 47 which had 116 links.

Thank you!

I've got a GW250 as well as a V-Strom. The original chain was pretty poor. After about 3500 miles it had tight spots that made getting the tension right impossible so I had it replaced. It had always been well lubricated and didn't have a spec of rust on it. I had a DID520VX3 fitted which is suitable for bikes up to 800cc.

Just for information, since I changed my transmission, for the same use, I use 2.9l for 100 kms instead of 3.2l ;-)

Have to say I'm equally disappointed with the quality of the original chain. My XT has 4K on the clock and I have had to adjust the chain twice.  really not good enough Suzuki.
