Height
« on: January 16, 2021, 14:45:25 »
I am looking at a 2014 V-Strom 650 as I've been struggling with the height of my GS500f and want to do more (other half also complains about the pillion seat). I am 6ft 2 tall with about 32" inside leg. With lockdown stopping me from getting out and trying the bike, do you think this would be comfortable? Does anyone else have similar measurements?

There are loads of riders on this forum at 6'6" and above. It won't be a problem.

I'm 6'7"" myself, so is Tall Paul and we have some taller ones too.

:thumb: if anything, some shorter riders have issues with the stroms and get lowering kits. The pillion seat is reportedly very comfortable (my other half loves the seat, compared to other bikes I've had).

I presume you are scouring youtube and the interweb for reviews etc, too? :thumb:

I'm only 6' but have a 32 inch inside leg. The bike is perfect for me. My pillion found the seat to be very comfortable compared to a standard seat on a BMW R100GS but for me, it was just okay.

A kind member on this site sold me his used gel seat and now the bike is perfect. It's not the fastest bike in the world (far from it) but it will nip along, it's good for B road scratching and will cruise all day, two up at motorway speeds. You may be shocked as to how economical it is, especially if you want it to be. I was. Anyway, try to have a test ride, it should be possible soon. I only rode mine for 10 minutes before returning to the shop and buying it.

I’m 6’1” with 32” inside leg and find the vstrom 650 easy to flatfoot both sides.

At your height I’m not sure why you're struggling with the height of a gs500f  but if you are they are a fair bit lower than the vstrom.

I’ve always found this site really helpful.

I had a DL650A L3 (2013) for 4 years,
Height 6' 1", 33" inside leg
Lowered the pegs by 2 inches and upped the bars 1 inch
Perfect for me  :sunny:

Reasonably comfortable too (until arthritis reared it's ugly head)

Hope you find what you want!
P.S. The blue ones are the fastest!

Hi,
I have the same model and am about 6' 1".
It's just OK for me, sometimes I clip the rear hand-rail when swinging me leg over, but that might be age (not far off 50 )

I think the strom is about an inch to an inch and a half taller than the gs500f. I'm 6 foot, 32" inside leg,  not far off 50...about 11 years ago! Never had height issues with the 2012 version of the 650, though.

I had a feeling someone would ask me that  :icon_wink:

On my DL650A L3 I used a combination of the Cymarc Lowering Kit and some M-Factory pegs from Asia somewhere
On my DL650A XT M0 I have used the Cosmo Lowering Kit (thicker plate) and MPW Vario set with the Sport pegs (come in various colours)

It takes a bit of getting used to as the pegs stick out a fair bit and you have to alter the way you change gear or brake
It doesn't bother me once I get used to it and it is way more comfortable and relaxing
I find it easier to manoeuvre the bike whilst riding, would never revert
The downside, although small, is it is difficult to ride other bikes as they feel like the pegs are way too high, like a sportsbike

Some people would not like them being so low for obvious reasons but I have only grounded my boot once in 7 years on a sloped roundabout and that was on my CRF1000L (twixt Stroms)

I am thinking of asking Cosmo if he would make me plates that are "adjustable" with one set of holes 25mm lower and another 50mm lower
I would then be able to have only one set of adapters and a more varied choice of peg, oem even

I will post some photos when I find them

Hope this helps and let me/us know how you get on

Thanks, I've seen the MFW footrests before and discounted them as they appear to push your foot out wider on the pedal.

My other thought was to put a Suzuki taller seat on or have mine or ideally a spare seat altered to make it taller and also flatten it out a bit so you can move more towards the front of the bike.

Bearing in mind I'm new to vstroms does anyone know if the the equivalent year 1000cc model seat also fits the 650?

The 2020 with just the MPW Vario variable 25-50 (I think)
Will take a photo with the Cosmo included tomorrow hopefully
