Top boxes
« on: October 28, 2020, 05:13:48 »
Looking for recommendations for a 2012 glee. Wanting to fit a medium sized plastic box. So many makes out there and do they all need special mounting plates? Any advice much appreciated.

I have Givi top box and panniers on 2015 v-strom very happy with them, but the top box will need a fixing plate, you can get Givi boxes and fixing plates quite cheap on flebay sometimes.

Kappa is the same as Givi but slightly cheaper (made by the same people)

Thanks for the interesting and helpful link. I am a fussy boy and want something in the 40+ litre size though. Also as I am early in my relationship I am still wanting to splash out a little on my glee. 😂

Know a few people who run SHAD luggage which seems like nice quality stuff, the expandable top boxes which can change size are really nice (Expand to store you lid whilst you're off for coffee, collapse again to ride away) but they are most definitely not cheap.

I've always used Givi - good solid stuff.
Link to top plate with suggestions for boxes.

I have the V47. Plenty big enough for a weekend away for two.

Paid £15 for used top box almost five years ago, never leaked or failed. Never understand why you would pay hundreds for a top box.

Two helmet storage for under £30?

Tip: search eBay under 'universal top boxes'

Mac1 see you have a Harley and a V-Strom, just like me! - nice balance. Two very different bikes for different purposes.  :thumb:

Shad SH48 is a great box at a reasonable price.   You don’t need to use the key to open or close it, which is a very useful feature.  Just fits two full face helmets in it too.
Never too old to ride!

Kappa KGR46 Monokey - excellent box, good size, easy shape to pack, suits the bike. Better than the Givi equivalent IMO.

Mine came with a Kappa 37L (£90ish), previous bike I had a Kappa 52 (£180ish), both monokey, go for the stronger monokey mount rather than monolock. I think Kappa quality is pretty good. They're such big bikes you can put any top box on and it won't look daft...
