givi trekker outback panniers
« on: September 02, 2020, 13:27:02 »
Hello All
Decided to go with some Givi trekker outback panniers for my 2017
Not sure what setup to go with, the 48L both sides , 37L both sides or the mixed 37L and 48L
The 48L looks a bit wide but would love the room
is the 37L that much thinner ?
Has anyone got any comments about them in terms of issues when filtering,
quality or know the width of the setup from the centre of the bike as it looks like
the givi racks don't fit tight to the bike making it wider still
Any feedback good or bad would love to know

Thanks Ace

I use 33l both sides, to me, when you use different size boxes, it emphasises the missing exhaust.

I have 37 litres both sides, only fit them when needed, not easy filtering with them on. I prefer a seat bag/tank bag/top box set up, the top loading panniers are great though for touring.

This is a photo of mine. Not the Outback but it will give you an idea of the size.
The Givi Trekker 46L (the bigger one on the left) is advertised as 310mm deep.
The Givi Outback 48L is advertised as 306mm deep.
Bigger volume but 4mm narrower.
The Givi Trekker 37L is advertised as 246mm deep.
Mine at a total width are 112cm across, the same width as my wing mirrors (Aprilia style on extenders).
That is a 52L top box, try not to put too much heavy stuff in there though.
I think the 2017 has the low exhaust so you can fit the same on each side, I like the two different sizes to even the width out on mine. (plus SHMBO can get more in the bigger one!!! )
It's good to have the room but you might/will end up taking more than you need.
I can filter fine with that set up most of the time, but I don't do town/city centres,  I'm talking motorways/dual carriageway filtering.

Good spot Rusty......todays deliberate mistake obviously!  :shy:
Yes, it should be 56 each side.  :)

I used these for my round the world trip 2018-19. Had the 37l + 48l which worked well. My only mistake was having the catches on the rear which prevented me holding fuel cans to the back since the catches got in the way. They survived being hit by a car in India and were tough but wide.

If you want max luggage space for minimum width your best bet is to get something like my ARDcases and fit them to your Givi rails. They are simple ally boxes with no funny shaped mouldings that waste space. They are also easy to bolt other bits and bobs to.
