Sprocket nuts / bolts
« on: July 30, 2020, 13:18:44 »
I’m just after some advice please.
I recently added the Cymarc gear change enhancer (it’s very good) on my Gen 3 1k.
The kit came with replacement nuts (which I used), I’m assuming here whenever you remove the rear sprocket it’s good practice to replace the nuts it is after all a critical area.
But how about the carrier sprocket bolts (I think that’s what they’re called), are they good to be reused, should they be replaced at a specific mileage what’s considered good practice?

Locking nuts on critical applications you replace as the locking part isn't as good with subsequent uses. Bolts that aren't torqued to stretch levels and well within yield tension, as long as they're not damaged, they should be fine to re-use.
Are these not part of the sprocket carrier anyway - just looking at Fowlers and I'm only seeing a single part for the carrier. including bolts. (£244 and not in stock...)

Thanks Mr Nick
You’re right the bolts are part of the carrier assembly that’s why I thought I’d better ask (expensive).
The book says torque the NEW sprocket nuts to 60n-m’s, I went with 50n-m’s in the end and marked them up to check for movement (well done Cymarc for including new nuts in the kit).
Assume the rear axle nut is safe and designed to be reused after adjusting the chain tension. (I only go to 80n-m’s on that one)

Greywolf recommended anti seize and 80% of stated torque for the rear axle nut.
