« on: July 20, 2020, 03:21:36 »
Anyone have any thoughts on adding a Power Commander to the DL650XT? I have installed a Delkevic system. Thanks

:welcome: I recall reading on various V-Strom sites, that installing a power commander on any of the DL650 models, was deemed a waste of money. The fueling was that good, even with a aftermarket slip-on exhaust. The DL1000 was a different kettle of fish, as it was well documented for the running lean at certain rpms. But don't let me stop you from experimenting for yourself.

What do you hope to gain by installing a power commander on your DL650? At most, you may find a slight improvement in fueling but I'm not sure whether it will be a wow factor. There are less expensive options to gain a richer fueling. Have you read threads like: https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=20395.0 , https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/wee-re-power-commander-change-pipe.429991/ , https://www.stromtrooper.com/threads/exhaust-systems-power-commander-iii.242513/ and https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=38344.0

You don't need to add one just because you've added an exhaust if that's what you're asking.  The fuelling on the 650 isn't too bad as standard, so only minor gains can be had.  One gain is on off throttle smoothness and sorting out the surging when at a steady state cruise.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a power commander as the ECUs can be remapped anyway.  Take it to a decent place and have a rolling road remap done.  It will suit your bike better and no extra devices required, and no extra devices to go wrong.

I've recently had mine done and am really pleased with the results. More to come on that one in another thread though when I get the pre and post dyno run data back.
