Question from new member
« on: June 24, 2020, 10:03:04 »
Hello all....650xt new model.......can I fit the Suzuki close fitting pannier set made for this model along with a givi 47 ltr topbox ( carries two helmets ). Suzuki  say no.....only fit their smaller topbox.....I have looked at fittings and cannot see why I can't do this ! I want a slimmer back end to the bike and the close fitting panniers give this......any advice would be much appreciated ......

Maybe they are concerned  that the bigger top box will allow too much "stuff" in it and the weight may be too much for the subframe. If you only use it as a helmet and gloves store the bigger box will be fine.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

It may also be related to the issue I currently have on my Yamaha, which has the factory top-opening panniers and the 52L Givi trekker top box. The box is so wide that you can't open the panniers with the top box fitted as the box overhangs the pannier lids. The Yamaha top box is narrower, so doesn't have the problem. To be safe, either go all Givi or all Suzuki to be sure of compatibility. I seldom use my panniers but the top box is essential for me. If anything changes for me in future and find I need panniers too, I will buy Givi side opening ones to match the top box.

I have the Givi 47 litre with a Givi plate fitted to my 2019 650. I also have the Givi 35 litre panniers for touring. I had the 47 litre box and plate on my 2015 1000 with the Suzuki side cases. No problem at all, and it was pretty full at times ! I rejected the Suzuki panniers for the 650 as they are very small (hence overloading the top box) and find the 35 litre Givis don't add too much width. The mirrors are still the widest part. Disappointingly two AGV helmets will not go into the top box nor will one fit in a pannier.

Many thanks for Replies....just to update.....I am going with givi v47 topbox and v35 panniers,
the main reason being my dealer has just came back to me with the cost of the Suzuki panniers.....£900 a pair....without fittings, without inner bags....

Good choice. The Suzuki bags are very flimsy and I was always frightened of breaking the key in the lock when shutting them. Just a pointer if you weren't aware. The fitting kit for the V 35 is type specific for the V Strom so check you get the right ones.

Just to let you know I found side opening panniers a problem for me, so changed to Givi Dolomite panniers (had to change rack as well). new set up is miles better for me.  :thumb:
