Moving Handlebars back A Little
« on: April 25, 2020, 21:00:43 »
I'm looking to move my handlebars back a bit so as to avoid hand fatigue etc. I am 5.11 but still find the bars just an inch or so too far away leaving me constantly stretching forward. I have found "risers" that will move the bars UP but nothing that will move them backwards towards me the rider. Is the adjustment a simple process or need I take it to the garage ? Thanks Angus .

You can buy 'Barbacks' also known as up and back risers  :thumb:

I tried to fit them to mine but there is not enough slack in the cables which was disappointing and I can't be bothered to get new longer cables so I will just have to put up with it.

You can usually find enough slack for a 20mm riser, I appreciate Suzuki are not generous when it comes to cable length (or metal content in their fasteners). Sometimes popping the cables out of one of the guides gives enough slack.

Thanks . I think I can just loosen the nuts a bit and pull them back . That should be enough . If not will look into getting risers. If I do go that far ...does anyone recommend ape bars on a vstrom ?

Only orangutans could recommend them.

I too have thought of rolling my bars back just a little but I think the brake, clutch levers etc may end up at the wrong angle as (I may be wrong) are there small holes or indentations in the bars to locate the levers in? I will roll mine back tomorrow if someone can advise us that there are not. Thank you in advance.

I'm so glad you asked the question.  :)

No , you can loosen the front brake master cylinder and clutch lever perch clamps to adjust them if needed.
It's the switch gear both sides that have locators.

You may still find the brake hose will become tight, and you don't really want that.
I've just replaced my brake lines and had the front line extended by 30mm, still waiting to take it out and see if it makes much difference.
