F%cking with my clutch and just getting f%cking angry
« on: March 27, 2020, 19:37:17 »
My issue is blokes that I’ve got too much cable so the clutch won’t disengage when I pull the lever.

I must mention I’m talking about my Vstrom 650 L8 2018

I’ve adjusted everything at the lever end in multiple configurations and no matter what I try, the rear wheel still spins when the clutch is pulled in. It aggravates me to say the least.

I slackened everything off, lifted off the arm on the shaft near the front sprocket and pulled it back (toward the sprocket) by 1 tooth with the thinking that would take up ‘the slack’ and then started again.

Still the same result, rear wheel still spins with the clutch in. I can stop the wheel with my hand so it’s just slipping a touch.

What’s the crack blokes, I need someone’s wisdom before I loose my shit and break something

Most bikes will do that when on the centre stand.

It will do this. All wet multiplate clutches do this, my bike is the same.

So your saying it’s OK?

My only worry is that both the adjusters on the lever are at their max and it’s still doing it.

Could it be a new cable or should I try moving the cable arm away toward the sprocket another tooth?

Every bike with a wet clutch does the same, there is nothing wrong with your bike ..

Adjust the clutch cable back to standard and forget about it ..

Now you need to put it back how it was because it sounds like you've been playing in the deep end.

It begs the question of why you felt the need to bugger about with it in the first place? Was there a fault? First rule of anything is don't fix what isn't broken!!

Yeah, years ago I messed with the worm drive that presses the clutch push rod.

DON'T FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DISMANTLE IT

Tiny 2.5mm ball bearings all over the place!  :bawl:

As has been said all wet multi plate clutches will have clutch drag rotating the rear wheel while on the centre stand.

If it can't be stopped with a light press of the rear brake then there may be an issue. (Don't try stopping it by hand)
As the oil warms up the drag effect will reduce and the wheel rotation will slow until it will just creep.

Now that’s the type of reassuring answer I was looking for mr_driver

No fear of me dismantling it, just getting a bit obsessed with the wheel not spinning. Watched the video of Vstrom doctor on YouTube and he manages t adjust his so it totally stops almost straight away.

I press the brake and it stops but then slowly starts to spin once I let go

My Brother's Sprint ST spins the back wheel much faster than my Strom.

It's a generic effect.

For once the "they all do that Sir" message is really true.

What no worm drive on the L8 650cc?

Edit. I just check on Fowler's. and you are correct.
I though kwackboy isn't usually wrong with stuff like this, but is he thinking DL1000?
But I never noticed they changed to the pinion style clutch actuator.

1 bit of info I totally forgot to mention, I fitted adjustable short lever levers! Massive brain fart

That'll be why there's excess cable and the wheel spinning. Would that warrant adjusting the arm on the clutch rod next to the front sprocket?

I wasn't doubting you, more did you see the OP had a 650. to be honest I haven't paid that much attention to the 2012> models or at least not to that extent.

I remember Juvecu doing a strip down of his K5 and losing his balls   :haha:

I know he got replacements so when my balls rolled all over the place I asked him what size his were and ordered some of the same. :icon_exclaim:
