Picked up a 2 year old Vstrom 1000 with about 4.5k on the clock. The bike was serviced by the dealer before I took it off him. I believe the service interval is 7.5k or one year. For me this will be yearly as I suspect I'll only do 2-3k/year. So if I do the oil and filter annually I'm thinking I should be good to go for a few years until the 15k valve check service?

Anything I've missed?  I'll check the pads too from time to time, don't know the typical life for those. I don't mind not getting the dealer stamp  every year as the warranty will expire next year anyway and I'd like to avoid the dealer servicing costs for the basics.

Yeah service intervals are one year or 7.5k miles. Just do the oil and if you like the oil filter every year and ride it till 15k before anything major needs looked at. I done this, found no shims needed at 15k so rode it to 30k with only oil and filter changes.
At 30k I needed all the exhaust valves opened a few sizes but all the inlets would have done and the throttle body balance was fine too, a good low maintenance bike.
My brother rides a 08 fireblade about 2k per year, he never does anything other than the oil and filter, original plugs and air filter still in it, it never misses a beat and he's not easy on it.

Do you need to remove the exhaust when replacing the rear brake pads? Looks a bit tight otherwise.  Exhaust removal doesn't look too bad.

I serviced my rear brakes on 2014 and now on 2018 DL1000 and have never touched the exhaust.

I find it easier to remove the exhaust  can, more room to work. It takes all of a minute tops to remove it, two bolts.

Don’t forget to check and test the brake and clutch fluid for water absorption, Suzuki reckon it should be replaced every two year, and the Coolant every 4 years.
If you ignore your teeth, eventually they’ll go away

Other servicing items aside I.e. brake pads, the bike just needs oil at 7.5K\ annual. Plugs will easily do 15K+ before changing (they are super expensive). No shims needed doing on mine at 15K, but expect they will at 30K (this year).
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.
