Heated Grips Identity
« on: March 02, 2020, 14:32:54 »
I have an 08 Wee which has heated grips.
They are controlled by what looks like a simple rheostat, but have a dead spot in the middle. Full on gets too hot and low setting is not enough but the dead spot prevents optimum use.
I've had a look but can't see a manufacturers name on them. Does anyone recognise the controller?

Not really. I fitted Puppy Grips so the originals are well covered. There was no obvious logo on the rubber that I can recall.

I'm hoping that I may be able to replace just the controller. There are a couple of cheap ones on Ebay from R&G and Oxford.

Most heated grips and their controllers are wired the same way , I don't see why you couldn't use another model controller.

I've had a couple of sets of them...
Had a set on the Super Sherpa and now on my XJ600n.

They were pretty much the cheapest proper heated grips I could find for the hack bike on ebay.

Don't bother looking for a make, they're Chinese and crap.
Mine has developed an occasional habit of only heating the rhs and take so long to heat up, I'm 500yrds from work before I realise my left hand is a block of ice and my right is glowing red hot.

Full is blisters after 20 mins, low is lukewarm without gloves.

If they don't suit your needs fit a set of Oxford hotgrips. Sportsbike shop, m&p, demon tweaks usually have them on offer.

If someone is selling a used controller- it's knackered!

The element never fails, wires break in the loom, but more often the controller goes up the spout.

Not sure about that. I sold my old Oxford controller after upgrading to the higher-end grips (and changing to the hardier touring grips from the sport ones that wore out in no time). You can't get the grips off to sell them too so you just have to do the controller and hope someone needs that one thing on its own.
