Indicator swap - orange to clear
« on: February 25, 2020, 13:10:40 »
Hi all,

I'm looking to put clear lenses on my 2016 650. I've had a look at the parts fiche for the 2016 and 2018 and the only difference I can see is the lens and bulb colour?

The orange looks soo dated and I refuse to pay £200+ for the official LED kit from Suzuki!

Just check but I think that orange bulbs have offset bayonet pins? This is intended to stop people accidentally putting clear bulbs with clear lenses, as this is an mot no-no. I could be wrong though!

Just an idea that's cheaper, during MOTs I've seen indicator bulbs that have been painted/dipped in orange heatproof paint.

My car failed its MOT once because the orange paint had either faded or peeled from the oem bulbs in the clear lenses. The flashing light wasn't orange enough.  :GRR:  Wouldn't have happened with clear bulbs and orange lenses.

I changed my 650K9 from clear to orange because mates told me that the rear indicators could not be seen in bright sunlight.Suzuki only did it for a couple of years. If anyone needs a clear lens I have a set of 4, they are handed BTW.

I put smoke grey lenses on my 16 DL650. Orange bulbs with the correct pins are widely available  :thumb:

I bought clear lens with orange bulbs cheaply on ebay, and have put silver foil behind the bulb to increase the brightness.

There is even the option with "Philips Silver Vision". Those are indicator bulbs that give orange light but when off, they are silver (white). I used them when I had white lens indicators. Now I use LED.
