Adjustable levers
« on: January 13, 2019, 22:44:14 »
I realise this question may have been put to everyone before but I can't seem to find it on here.

Basically I am wanting to swap my brake and cable clutch levers on my 2018 V-strom 650 XT ABS for adjustable ones but I can't find any that say they are specifically for my bike.

Am I being daft or can I just swap them for any brake levers from say a bandit or and SV 650 if they have cable clutch levers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe things have moved on a bit since I had my Strom, but I couldn't find any aftermarket adjustable levers that would work with the factory hand guards.

Make sure that your new clutch lever will operate the clutch switch, the Strom has at least two types of lever depending on year.

Yeah looking at the clutch lever it does have a funny square kind of off set that obvs is there to go round the switch gear?

Might try and find an old cable clutch bandit and see if that'll fit, most of their parts are interchangeable I think?

If anyone has managed to fit an after market adjustable set I'd be keen to hear about it.

Possibly? Just want to make sure they clear the switch gear. Might just buy them because I can always return them.

I'll post a pic with how they turn out

I've got Chinese, flea bay ones on my DL1000. Well made and work fine.
Alternatively you could have a look on Fowlers parts directory for the origanal part numbers and cross referance with other bikes

that's interesting. Why do you want adjustable levers when factory ones are adjustable?? At least in my 05 Vee

The wee has a cable clutch, so isn't adjustable like the hydraulic clutch lever on a vee. The brake lever is adjustable on both vees and wees.

Found a breakers yard near me and fished out an old Suzuki on a mid 90's plate which had an adjustable cable clutch lever. Got it for £5 so I'll see if it'll fit this weekend and let y'all no

What is point of having adjustable clutch lever for cable clutch when biting point is adjustable on the cable adjuster?

The bite point doesn't determine where the position of the lever is when it is released. The adjuster sets the distance of the lever from the hand grip. If you have short fingers then you can set the lever to be nearer to the grip.

Yes, that is true. I thought the problem here was the biting point.
I believe you will find adjustable levers as I last year helped a friend of mine to do the same for his GSX-R 1000 K2. We got them from eBay (from China). So, somebody probably makes them for Wee too.

Hi All,

To anyone like me who is new to these bikes and reading back on these post for education be careful when ordering aftermarket levers.

I bought a set that were listed for my correct model bike but due to the different profile of the lever and that my heated grips are aftermarket Oxford units the lever fouled on the grips. My main reason for replacing them was to remove the polished aluminium finished looks ( think it looks cheap and was at odds to the rest of the colour scheme of the bike ) being gutted of the thought of refitting the silver ones I stared googling and found black finished oem profile levers on ebay... happy bunny
