Don't want to jinx it, but...
« on: December 23, 2019, 20:27:41 »
I've just upgraded the motherboard, CPU & memory on my PC, then imaged the current boot drive to an m.2 drive and it all just worked without having to reinstall or even repair Win 10.  :lala:

For those interested, I've gone with a Gen3 Ryzen 5 3600 processor on a Gigabyte B450 Elite board with 16Gb of DDR4 3200 and a 480Gb NVMe M.2 SSD.
This was replacing an old AMD FX-8320 that I'd had for 4 years and Windows seems to have sorted itself out without any real issues so far - it just booted up and spent a few minutes removing & installing drivers.

This is easily the least hassle I've ever had doing an upgrade - usually ends up with a broken operating system and a clean install...

I haven't updated my computer since c. 2010 (except Windows 10) so am pleased to hear it went well as I've always ended up reinstalling Windows again. I keep thinking of upgrading my computer but given I don't have enough time to ride my bike as much as I like  :bawl:, I certainly don't have time to play computer games (which would be the point of upgrading it)  :bawl:

Maybe I have jinxed it...

Windows is refusing to activate the licence so far: it's linked to my MS account and I should be able to tell them that I've upgraded hardware and it's the same PC that the licence is valid on, but there's a problem contacting the activation servers it seems.
I'll worry about that some other day as everything's still working & If I end up having to spend a fiver on another licence then I'll not be crying.

Blah, blah, blah, blah.

If you can't mend with tie wraps, gaffer tape or welding it's f#cked. :)
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.
