You need to sit in those driving cabs to appreciate the size of the frontal blind spot. A warning to not creep / filter into the death zone
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.

The driver will have a very good "efficient braking" score.

Using a car saves service brakes. :thumb:

I wonder where he left his trailer.....

Car driver likely an under taker at a junction and tried to nip inside the truck within the driver’s blind area. Every chance the truck driver wouldn’t have seen them and wouldn’t have felt the impact/resistance. You can see his surprise when he looks out the window.

If the blind spot's really that big, then surely a very urgent redesign of all truck cabs is needed..... and would he really not have noticed the greatly increased resistance?

Interesting to note that the truck has no downward-facing mirror on the top outside of the screen. I thought they were pretty much standard these days.

How do they manage to tailgate so closely with such a blind spot?
To be honest, when I used to do lots of motorway miles with a trailer in tow, truckers seemed to be the only people who appreciated the risks. The number of cars that attempted to get between my van and trailer baffled me.

@Rusty it does have a mirror, it's just to the left of the n/s upper marker lamp. I drive the same DAF, the class V1 mirror that covers the front blind spot is useless other than for "shunting". It is obscured by the near-side sun visor, the wiper sweep doesn't touch that part of the screen and it gets covered in road grime within minutes.

Some bloke ran into the back of me in a Megane in traffic, the 1st I knew about it was when I pulled away, I did my usual mirror check and saw  a cloud of steam. I initially assumed it was from the rear brakes but then I saw the remains of the Renault.

He'd hit me so hard both front wings were touchings the front wheels, the radiator was on top of the engine and the bonnet was over the screen. He was fine other than a little shook up.

His car did scratch my rear reflective tape though...

Thanks TLP, I was looking for it front & centre, where our 7.5t "600" trucks have them.

"...the class V1 mirror that covers the front blind spot is useless other than for "shunting"."

The vid is a pretty good illustration of shunting!

 lol excellent. :thumb:

The colour of the car is also a factor being as it's almost the same colour as the road.
