SWMotech Bar Backs
« on: May 01, 2019, 19:09:10 »
The Vstrom 650 is a comfortable bike, and I'm sure the 1000 is the same. But there's always a few tweaks you usually have to do. Mine is adding the SW Motech 22mm bar backs. Up 30mm. back 20mm (or forward if you
prefer!) It seems my arms are a bit short. I was getting ache's in the back side of my shoulders. These have made a world of difference for the better. I have some ROX risers from a previous bike, but in my case, that would have been OTT, besides the cables and wiring harness would probably not have fit. The cables with the SWM's were fine. brake cable a little tight, but it's OK. The other thing I like about these SWM's is they sort of discreetly 'blend in'
Just had my first service done (600 m) and now I can open her up a bit more.

Do you have a link to which ones you bought please? I presume if they fit the 650 they would also fit the 1000 do you know?

I am 90% sure that they won't, I think the bars are bigger on the 1000 to be more stronger. Will a 1000 owner please verify?

Some of the XT models have tapered bars.
They are wider in the middle where they clamp to the yokes.
So the 22mm (7/8) bars will not tapered clamps and vice versa.

The base model bikes iirc both have 22mm (7/8) bars and will take a 30mm rise.
Not too sure how far back they can come with such a large rise or whether the 17> models will be the same.

That's what I wanted to do with my 2015 650 but there is not enough play in the cables, 3mm only and I do not want to go and buy new cables etc so I will just have to put up with it

I have a non wire wheel 68 plate 1000 and was more concerned by the cables etc. I’ve looked at bar back /risers before by SW o tech but they only seemed to suggest which ones might work.

I'm amazed that the bar-back SW Moto ones work with standard cables etc, all the reports seem to be about having to reroute cables, and get new hoses made up. etc!

I think that only the 2017-on DL1000 XT's have tapered bars

SW Motech used to have a webpage, a sort of table listing all (or most) of the bikes, and what you need to order to buy. It also, if I remember correctly, had information on the table as to whether the cables would need to be altered to fit the bar backs. If that's any help to anyone.
