Grip glue?
« on: April 22, 2019, 20:56:42 »
Bit of advice on what I should stick my grip (only the clutch side off) back on with please?
I see quite a few different glues are on the market, at different price ranges and different reports on how good they work.
I also see hairspray is supposed to work too?
Thank you.  :)

FWIW hairspray has to be the obvious first choice. Who goes out to buy special glue for one new pair of grips?

And yes, it does work fine.

(Next morning it's a mess again though.........  lol )
So how's it going so far then?

If it's a heated grip I'd use super glue , quite easy , just clean the bar , very lightly smear glue on the bar all over and then push on the grip, quickly in the desired position.

I don't use glue. I apply tape to bulk out the bar and shove the hot grip on. Sometimes I do have to add a bit. And yes if I try hard enough I can move it but not in normal use. My recent hot grips came suplied with superglue.

If it’s a heated grip do a test fit first without glue,Mark the correct position with a pencil, take the grip off, apply glue to ONLY the inner half of the handlebar and the outer half of the grip.Slide the grip on halfway to confirm the position is correct then slide it on in one quick movement making sure you aim for your pencil marks.Job done. :thumb:

It's not a heated grip gents, it's the original I had to take off to get the clutch lever bracket off.
When I took it off it had got a glue under it but it was soft/rubbery so wasn't a superglue.

Poundshop superglue apply as per Ianmc says but without having to stick to (no pun intended) an alignment mark. Consider using garage gloves to reduce risk of sticking yourself to anything and put something ( old towel etc) on the tank and surrounding bodywork to keep off any 'splashings'

All I would say is if you're going to use superglue, as I did using the stuff provided when fitting my hotgrips, make sure you do a dry run first and that you can fit them completely and properly all in one go.  That stuff goes off so damned quickly, that despite following the above advice myself I still ended up with one grip a quarter of inch away from pushed fully home.  :angry-banghead:

Hairspray was good in the past but one of the elements was changed to water due to environmental hazards. It does not now work as well for hair let alone as a substitute glue.

Hairspray or any other hair product has been an unknown for quite a few years for me too!!
Although Brockett seems to know quite a bit about it.

I don't use glue.

I put it back on this evening using this method (thanks Brocket). It seems to be OK and it'll be easy enough to take off & re-fix if necessary.  :thumb:
