Hello, and a question about the 2012 - 2016 650 Glee
« on: February 27, 2019, 17:45:35 »
Hello, first post here.

Having just written off my K6 SV650 thanks to a patch of diesel, I'm seriously considering a 2012 - 16 Glee because:

1)  I like the looks and package
2)  ABS (which would have probably saved me writing my SV off, if I'd had it)
3)  my wrists, back and backside aren't as young and flexible as they used to be   :smirk:

I like doing my own servicing (oil / filter, coolant, plugs, valve clearances etc), but I'm a little concerned about the amount of plastic that needs to be removed to be able to lift the tank and get at all these bits, especially compared with the SV which was a 2-minute job.

Is getting at plugs / airfilter etc really complicated and fiddly on the Glee?  Or is it a case of having done it once for familiarisation, it's dead easy?

If anyone can point me at any how-to pictorial / video guides, that would be great.

Thanks,  Craig

Hello Craig, pop along to the introduction section and say hello on there.  :thumb:

The glee is a great bike and as far as servicing goes, the engine is little different from the engine in the SV650. If you know your way around that bike then the glee will be no trouble. Plug changes are straightforward enough with only the radiator to pivot out of the way for the front centre plug. As you say, if you do it once it's a doddle the next time. The hardest bit is remembering where all the screws and clips are on the plastics!
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

Having just had the air filter changed on my Glee, I agree with the comment about the bolts. More time consuming than complicated and you don’t have to do it too often. Now got 45k on the bike and it runs as good as ever.

Hi
I have had 2 x SV 650 s bikes and have had my DL650 for 3.5 years now. I service it once every 12 months as I do not exceed the 7500 miles as stipulated in the manual. As has been said before, once you do it the first time removing the tank is actually not that difficult. If you look around this site you will find all sorts of info on the bike including a parts listing which is most useful. Oil  and plug changes are the same as with an SV, the front plug has always been difficult.

I have a Glee and just followed some YouTube videos when I had to raise the fuel tank to fit some electrical stuff when it was new. Was quite simple and would think it would be one second nature once done a few times.

Thanks, if you have any links to the videos / how-to guides, I'd be very grateful!  I'm looking at a Glee at the moment ...

Youtube is a good resource to try, eg:

https://www.youtube.com/user/DrVstrom/videos (mostly 1st generation, and also 2017-on 650's, but much is, well much the same
