Removing the air cleaner.
« on: March 04, 2019, 14:48:30 »
Morning all, over the weekend I replaced the air filter on my DL650, whilst in the "Innards" I though it would be a good time to attack the electrical connections below and infront of the bottom housing.
I was troubled by all the connections to the engine, I could see the clamps to the throttle bodies? but was daunted by all the others, am I being a bit girly or has anyone any tips ?.....Bob
I have a 2009 DL650.

Don't be to "girly" about it,  the plugs shouldn't fit anywhere else other than where they are ment to.
I find it best to take a few photos on my mobile when dismantling a bike , makes it easier when reassembling.

Do them one at a time if possible, but as has already been said, they should only mate up with the plug/socket they came from.

A handy tip, use the camera on your cell phone to snap a few pix of each connection / hoses / sensors, etc, prior to removing them. This will allow you a reference of how each one should look when you come to reassemble each item again. The pix can be saved for future reference, if ever needed again.

Yep, take photos for reference and store them. I've an old Kawasaki 750 in rebuild mode and those photos are not only a reminder of how I dismantled things but have proved far better than Haynes ....1) because they're colour and 2) because I can zoom in on camera or computer to follow routing or position.

The connectors are fool proof how they engage so get worried only if you think they are obviously too far apart!
So how's it going so far then?

Bob, have you had a look at the spares listing for your model bike, like for instance, https://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/c/suzuki_motorcycle/parts. Look up the air box section and you should be able to determine what to expect wrt hoses / connectors / etc.
Would you mind including your bike year in your profile, for us to be able to help with more accurate assistance?

Bob, Thanks for updating your bike info in your profile. Another good source of technical information on our model Wee is, https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php. The site is not as active as it once was, but still a good reference.

If you do take some photos, perhaps you'd consider including them in making a "how to" for others on here?
