Wee to Glee?
« on: January 09, 2019, 19:19:25 »
I'm having trouble deciding of whether to trade my Wee in for a Glee...it would be purely just to upgrade to the newer model as my Wee is running really well but will still need new front and rear discs very soon. Its not covered that many miles (28k) and thanks to this forum all the niggles this model suffers from have been sorted.

The change would cost me around £2500 for the one I'm looking at but I'm wondering if the expense is worthwhile.     The question is would you change?

What year of wee is yours? Does it have ABS?

I’d personally keep the 650, If you only have 28k miles on it it’s still like new ! Treat yourself to a new exhaust or something if you want to bling it up. Spend a few hundred rather than £2.5k and you’ll have another year at least of fun

We ride two up on the 650 all the time and have no problems with lack of power. I’ve dropped the bike a few times on rough trails, it’s heavy to lift, even with two of us. I imagine a 1000 would be far heavier. Suppose it depends on the type of riding you do really

Having had both models I say there is no good reason to change for change sake. I prefer the looks of the Wee and although the Glee is an upgrade it is hardly noticeable. I assume you are looking as a used Glee but is there a risk that you'll be getting someone else's poorly kept and maintained bike?
I think there is great pride is keeping an older bike in top fettle.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

If it ain't broke...

You could look at it like this too: £20 for a tank of fuel, 200 miles a tank, your £2,500 would pay for the next 25,000 miles worth of fuel :auto-dirtbike:

Even changing your discs, you'll still have money left over for a few years of fuel  :thumb:

I agree and the differences between the two are minor. Certainly no real changes mechanically. I would keep the wee.

Thanks for some good advice, my mind is made up...I'm keeping my Wee,it's a good bike and the expense of the change is hard to justify.

May look again in a year or two.

Just bought a very nice set of used front discs with hardly any wear!  Just need a good rear now.

I changed a couple of years back to get abs as I was commuting in all weather. Cost me about 2500 to change too, probably not worth it, but I prefer the glee based on looks. Glee felt marginally taller when I first got on it and its sightly better on fuel.

I wouldn't change either and also have 28K miles on mine.

I also prefer the looks of the old Wee over and above the Glee.

You could be swapping a sorted and reliable bike for one that has had a more difficult life.

Just passed 50k on mine and wouldn't/couldn't even think about parting with it for anything else. Gosh darn it, I'm welling up just at the thought! See what you've done?  :bawl: I just hope you are all proud of yourselves.

Might be just down to the type of mileage covered rather than the distance. Motorway Vs county lanes etc. Mine were under spec at about 30k as well and I very rarely go on motorways.

After all the advice I've decided to keep my Wee, I too was finding it difficult to change.

Have to say I've had more than my fair share of problems with it...all of them were well documented on this forum. As someone has said it doesn't make much sense to trade a well sorted bike in for an unknown (to me) bike.

The front discs are down to 4.3mm the rear about the same. I'm not the only owner so perhaps it was owned by someone with a heavy hand on the brakes? I'm very light on the brakes and use engine braking alot so not much of that wear is down to me. I'm waiting for some used discs from fleabay...they look good.

Really good bikes to ride the v Strom...by far the most comfortable bike I've owned and I was genuinely surprised how quickly I liked it.

The Wee is becoming a classic, it is better looking than the Glee and miles better looking than the daft pointy things on offer now.

Yeah I agree,I think I prefer the look of the front of the wee.

Just took delivery of some used oem front discs, they're like new with no visible wear! What a result! can't believe I'm that lucky...£75 delivered, well chuffed. Looking for a rear now.

I test rode a wee some years ago and it goes well but to me glee does have that little more umph towards the higher end - but that's the old RD rider in me  :thumb:

I've been looking about for a Glee recently too, just because I want a bit more go.  Not at all unhappy with the Wee, in fact it's the first time I've actually liked a Suzuki that I own.

I'm just finding myself unmotivated at weekends to go out for a blast.  It's lovely as a commuter and I'm sure it's a good tourer too but not really what you can call fun.
