2014 DL1000 throttle body actuator problem
« on: January 21, 2019, 16:26:11 »
hello all.I have just started my strom for the first time in a couple of months (quite severe hand injury has prevented any kind of riding) the bike started but ran quite rough so I switched it off and did some online research which pointed to the throttle position sensor being faulty.I have stripped off all the relevant bits n pieces and have found the secondary throttle actuator mounted on the throttle body is not operating properly.the motor turns when powered but the gears that operate the butterflies seem to be stripped(its removed from the bike and rattles a bit when shaken)does anyone know if replacements are available or maybe they can be repaired? I had hoped my first post would be on a cheerier subject but Hello ho.I would very much appreciate any help/advice about this as I should be fit to ride again soon.

I had issues with my K6 wee with the STVA.
It was only clogged and jammed with crud but the part you are after is not listed in the parts diagrams for the 2014 DL1000.
Therefore it comes as part of throttle bodies. £700 ouch.

This is the same for many of the sensors on the throttle bodies on Suzuki's

Ask for the throttle bodies rather than the motor.

You'll have spare parts and the seller is likely to charge a fair amount for the STVA as they will likely not be able to sell the throttle bodies without it.
Some won't split the throttle bodies anyways.

Breakers are funny people to make a deal with.

hi again.on further examination (without the tantrum this time) it seems that the noise is caused by the motor trying to go too far in one direction.I wonder if this points to a faulty T.P.S.? when I tried it after adjusting the position of the butterflies, everything seemed to operate properly except that the butterflies settled partly open and then closed up when I operated the main throttle by hand. is there a procedure for testing/adjusting/setting the T.P.S.?I am reluctant to trailer it to my local Suzuki stealer if it turns out to be something relatively simple.

Yes there is.
Put the bike into dealer mode (plug under seat, which needs to be wired to set) and check the indicator on the dash, the indicator will move as you twist the throttle grip to the highest position and settle in the middle position when closed. If the indicator moves to the lower position then you need to adjust the TPS sensor to bring back to the middle.
You can live more in 5 minutes on a bike... than some people will live in their whole lifetime (Burt Munro, World's Fastest Indian)

There's a video in this thread of the adjustment I made on my 650 TPS
