Veek valve clearances
« on: December 13, 2018, 11:38:53 »
Checked my 2014 vstrom today at 25k miles. This is my second check at the valves, first 15k. At 15k they where all pretty much in the middle of the range but now they're all at the lower end, ie 0.10mm inlet and 0.20mm exhaust. Not tight on the feeler but and extra 0.05 will not go. So to adjust or not?
I'm only keeping the bike one more year and will do less miles next year, 5k or there abouts.
Also had the same trouble again as at the 15k service, ie water getting into the front cylinder centre spark plug. It was all rusty again. And no I don't power wash the bike at all.  I'll put some instant gasket found the rubber plug at the top of the spark plug cap on rebuild to see if it helps. The wee drain hole is clear too.b

I wouldn't bother unless you are OCD about such things. If they are in tolerance then that is OK.

When I check mine, as long as the lowers (0.004/8) slide in easily and the uppers (0.008/12) do not go in, leave them  :fix:

Bike built back up again, thanks for all the advice. I'll run it to 30k and if I have to keep it after that I'll drop a 0.10mm smaller shim in all the valves and get the clutch basket mod done as I'm starting to get some vibration now at about 2500-3500rpm.
